Our dd's concussion specialist has put her on a new ADHD med. It actually is a dietary supplement but available by prescription only. From what I see it is based on DHAs plus some other natural products. It may just be that you can get the same items by buying other natural supplements but we are trying this to follow her Dr's orders. The only contraindication is for people who are allergic to shellfish or fish (it has krill oil). According to the reviews/studies it has to be taken for 30 days before one sees results. So, unlike stimulants, it has a cumulative effect. D takes one capsule in the AM and one in the PM.

The medication is very expensive. Our co-pay is $60 for a one month supply after insurance payments. But, the reviews are phenomenal so we are very hopeful that this may be the med that will finally help d's ADHD without the horrible side effects of stimulants.

I hope this works for your girl - so great to have something that does not have side effects of those other medications.  Will keep my prayers your way

Before being put on Vayarin, Dr. had put her on Brain Armor (Algaic Oil). She was taking 6,000 mg per day (3 in the AM and 3 in the PM). She has been on it exactly for 1 month and I think it is working. All of a sudden this weekend, she is SO much calmer. Yesterday, I teasingly tossed the cat on her while she was laying down on the couch. The kitty clawed her temple and drew a bloody gash. She just said "ouch! why did you do that?". She was upset but it was nothing compared to how she would have reacted a couple of weeks ago. There would have been F bombs and explosive anger, etc. Today, she is so pleasant and calm. Dh and I really think that the Brain Armor has helped her a lot with her emotional outbursts and responses. She is also not blurting out the way that she usually does.

Looking forward to seeing if Vayarin helps her even more with her school work.
