Hi Everyone,

After weeks of reading your posts it is now my turn to ask for your help.

We have a 20 year old daughter diagnosed with anorexia with pinge/purge.  She is really struggling with Covid-19 and has started self harming.  She is on a wait list for  NYGH and TGH (both hospitals in Toronto).   Our understanding is these waitlists are months long and so we are also looking at residential.

She is currently having a one hour phone call, once a week with the person that was leading her treatment where she was going to school.  She was only 6 weeks in to her tx there before she had to come home.

Does anyone here have experience with treatment in our area?  Any help is desperately needed and appreciated!

Thank you

Hello and welcome!
Both hospitals where you have been referred are good.

As your d is home with you, we can help with the behaviours and eating. Please ask questions we respond well with question.☺️

If your d is self harming, I am sure you know this, but please keep meds and sharps and poisons hidden. Lock keys away for cars and ensure she is safe from jumping out a high window. If she is at danger to herself or others take her to the hospital of if she is suicidal.

I am in Ontario, not Toronto. Those are great places to go.

please look at the FEAST site on the Canada page as well. I will get the link and post soon. I am currently on my phone.

Hello Gills, My 15 year old son was diagnosed just 6 weeks ago at Phillips House out of NYGH. It took about 8 weeks to get the appointment. I will tell you that once he was assessed, the care has been outstanding. 4 weeks ago, we went for a check in and he was hospitalized with bradycardia at NYGH. He got out yesterday and they are seeing us next Thursday in person despite covid-19. I took him to Mackenzie Health ER in late January and the doctor there gave us some advice for helping him eat which was very helpful. The doctor also told us to take him to NYGH ER department if we felt he was in danger. He also self harms.  We saw the family doctor Feb 11 and he was assessed at NYGH on April 8. It felt like a really long time so I completely understand your stress. That's been my limited experience in the Toronto area so far. I really just wanted to send you some love and hugs.  Tammy

Thank you Tammy!  And sorry to hear about your son.

Our daughter was seen at NYGH by a psychiatrist who referred her for treatment at TGH and NYGH.  It turns out the referral wasn't received and on on it goes but the dr did call my daughter after I left a message on Friday.  She is looking into it but we still have no idea how long the wait is for the adult program.

I have now researched private treatment and am looking at 2 outpatient clinics in Toronto.

You must not be too far away from us if you went to Mackenzie Health.  We are in Stouffville 🙂
