Tooth, I have just clicked onto the link at the top and it's a case of "don't get me started....!!!!!" I wish I'd had this to thrust in front of our treatment team when it was THEY who were saying "He has to WANT to recover" and all that stuff whereas I, the parent, was sitting there gobsmacked knowing he hadn't a hope of WANTING to recover. So we waited and waited and waited for him to "want to recover"... de da de da... Thank you so much for pointing this out. Too late for us but hopefully very helpful to others. xxxx

These resources are great. I understand this now that we are 9 months on and 3 month WR , but at the beginning I was desperate to find a way to get her to understand. I felt that if she understood then my fear could be allayed a bit and so she would help me to help her. I know I was not able to understand what was happening at the time as our lives were filled with a lot of stress. It is only through this journey and time and looking back that I get it. I am not sure if i had read all of this before that i would have been better prepared. How do we "get it" right at the beginning?

Great article!
we thought my d “got it” and was “sorted” 6 months after diagnosis was WR
diagnosed at 17

Wrong!!
it takes time and is a long slow process

she had a major relapse, lost all the weight we got on her plus more, admitted straight into IP
2 years later, she is going well WR
but continues her physcologist appointments to help keep her head sorted and to deal with anything that comes up that she might be struggling with

she seems to have insight now and is motivated to stay well to keep on with getting back into her life

we keep a very watchful eye on her but also she is now at the stage where she is more independent
she is now 20 1/2
