Our daughter has been in 3 rehabs since Dec2017 and has had no recovery. She had a nightmare experience in Brandywine Hospital and we hd to pull her out after 2 weeks. From there another hospital stay to stabilize then off to Sheppard Pratt where after a month there was no change or help mostly due to lack of staff and training. She promptly lost all the weight she had gained and back to a hospital again. Our last treatment center was Veritas Collabrative and they did a good job of weight gain but nothing to work on the behaviors or body imagine. We are now looking at either ERC in Denver or Laureate in Tulsa, Ok. Does anyone have any recent experience with either place? Thank you

I cannot help with those but have you already tried the 5 day family programm at UC San Diego or San Francisco?

Thanks Tina. We live in Pennsylvania so California is a hike for us. But that being said we are leaning towards Denver. They seem to have a intensive family program. That is something we haven't had at our previous 3 rehabs🙁

If you look at “parent reviews of treatment providers”
there are many threads on many programs and the ones you have mentioned are discussed.
On the main page you will find them at the bottom in their own category.

Depending on the age of your daughter, you might want to consider the week-long intensive program at the Center for Balanced Living in Columbus, OH. It was developed in collaboration with UCSD, which runs a similar Five Day Intensive for Young Adults.  We did not attend this program, but looked into it and thought it seemed very good.

Since you are in PA, might I suggest that you contact Children's Hospital of Philadephia (CHOP) and email or speak with Dr. Rebecka Pebbles?  She is a member of the F.E.A.S.T. Advisory Panel, (contact info available through the advisory link) and very willing to consult with parents.  She also presented briefly at our recent F.E.A.S.T. of Knowledge Day in NYC.  She is not able to treat outside a limited area of Philly (about 90 miles I think) but does consult with parents/providers all over the country.  She has a stellar reputation in the ED world.

Hi Georgiana
We spent 6 weeks in Denver and they have an awesome EDU eating disorder unit, our family learned so much while we were there, we hated being there but as you probably already know it was a necessary visit. We could not do it on our own and even with help and knowledge it is still a roller coaster. Try, tweak, learn and grow.
Be firm, be patient, be genuine. Hope you find the right place, that can help you family. This forum is my new ED family, there has been times I have had questions or concerns and they always come to the rescue. May the Lord watch over and bless your family with all that you need.

My daughter was recently at ERC in Denver for 6 weeks. Their program is laser focused on weight restoration. I didnt think my daughter needed to gain weight and they still wanted her to gain 12 pounds. They will challenge you and your daughter to handle the distress of taking in lots of calories and seeing her body fill out. The body image stuff is hard. It’s not going to be resolved at the same time as weight restoration. It’s just too much to expect I think.

The parent education program at ERC is pretty solid if you are able to take advantage of a the PHP program in Denver. They work really hard to help prepare parents for the hard work that must be done in the long run at home. I believe that their PHP is crucial to the success of their program and I think they will probably tell you that themselves. If you don’t think you can make the commitment then it might not be the right fit.  The residential portion is very difficult and the kids hate it.  Period.  The kids need that time with the parents involved during the PHP.

Again, the kids hate it because it is very strict and there are some pretty sick kids there.  Many use feeding tubes to get the weight gain they need.  A Dr said in one presentation they try for 4-5 pounds a week. They are not messing around waiting for anybody to want to eat or when they feel ready.  And they are very convincing that all evidence backs up their approach and I believe them. They are the experts. They are the adults in the room in the world of eating disorders and they can help if you listen to what they say. They preach FBT day in and day out during PHP, and again, if that’s not what you’re looking for then it might not be the right fit. Everything that I’ve read has indicated that FBT is the most successful approach out there right now.

Hi springsprang,

all you describe sounds very good and very up to date there! Thanks for the report.
With that good start I am sure your d will be a lot better soon!
