Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. - A. A. Milne
Bumping this up as I feel this is so important. We struggled mightily with FBT for a whole variety of reasons but one of them was the extreme behaviours that were exacerbated (our d has had several diagnoses since the one of AN binge-purge subtype, the latest, that of autism, being the one I feel fits best) by the illness. I strongly believe that any kind of treatment for eating disorders must be backed up by adequate services to make the process safe. For many of us that will include full psychiatric care to the point of hospitalization. Needing a hospital bed is a sign of the strength of the illness just as it is with asthma or cancer, not a sign that those in the community (usually the patient and the parents) aren't trying hard enough
