Hi,
Has anyone tried hypnotherapy for their AN child and did you see any positive results?
15 year old D. Started to feel low summer 2019. Fall out with friends October 2019. Depressed, self-harming and suicidal from January 2020. Diagnosed with AN July 2020. Slowly coming out of it and feeling hopeful for the future.

Yes, my daughter had Hypno before her Ed and it helped so thought I would try it again.
unfortunately it didn’t help her whilst in her Ed 😢

My D did it for stomach/bowel issues before ED and it DID help quite a bit

We supposedly tried that, and it didn't help with the AN, and probably didn't help with anything else, either, other than that there is a benefit to seeing that we are willing to pay all that money and time for her.  The t claimed to be doing hypnotherapy (even had a personalized plate to show that), but not sure that was actually what she did.  Your mileage may vary. xx

Many thanks for your replies. My daughter is not keen and I think she would need to be going into it with an open mind for any chance of it working. She says it would freak her out someone messing with her mind. She seems to be in quite a good place mentally at the moment so we’ll just keep going with the feeding.

Hi Bobs,

We have not had hypnotherapy but in the desperation of those early weeks, I informed my wider family of our predicament.

One of my cousins, while she cannot help with ED, tried to help with the triggering anxiety.  She asked me about our D's bedtime and "sent her energy" from her end for an hour, 3 evenings a week.

Well, I know it sounds like one of those stories.  But for the first time in months D did not exercise in bed, had a refreshing sleep.  Best of all, she stopped losing weight and gained 1.5 kg in that first week (then about 0.5 kg weekly thereon). Maybe it was because I sat still during those hours and was willing her on? In desperation, we try anything for our children...

I also gave my daughter a shoulder and neck massage whenever she asked me for one.

It won't hurt to try hypnotherapy, I guess 😀

All the best,

Zylie

I agree @Bobs. We all speak the language and cut through  the chase 😀. I found sooooo many answers before I even asked a question.
