Does it help a person with an ED to know the science behind their illness, what is happening in their brain? Or does this make them overwhelmed if they know too much? I don't know if I should share things like that with her although I suspect she's already done her own research anyway.

I usually steer clear of information about anything Ed-related.  They twist it all around and use it against you.

Even "Food is your medicine" can be problematic for those who think they don't want to / don't deserve to get well.  xx

I think it depends a lot on the age of the person with the ED and their engagement in recovery. No one right answer. As Torie has said it can be twisted but at the same time I think if their is interest in the biology it can help someone understand the process and why it is so difficult. Programs such as that used at Center for Balanced Living extensively teach about the biology of eating disorders.
