Has anyone had experience with a physician in the Houston area who has experience with ED?   Looking for new PCP.

Hi TripleM2019, sorry to reply so late. I didn't see your post until now. I'm from Houston. My D (15) goes to Texas Children's Hospital Adolescent Medicine, Eating Disorder program. The team is okay. It can be quite stressful for my D and myself to go to this place due to traffic and parking. It takes at least a hour for us to get there one way trip. And the clinic is next to the hospital always crowded with patients/Drs (makes her feel like going to the hospital, a little stress out). One time, we had to wait for an hour to be seen because they are out of patient's room. Another challenge is their appointments are very full. Back in Oct 2019, the next available MD appointment for returning patients was Feb 2020. We did managed to get a "first walk in" appointment within a week of diagnosis as new patient. But after that, it is hard to get a frequent follow up (plus my D has been eating and gaining weight). I am always on the "wait list" to get a sooner appointment. They have an ED psychotherapy group meets every Wednesday in the evening. But again, struggling with that traffic every Wed evening will be too much for us. If I bring her over there, I won't be able to cook dinner. If dinner is late, she won't eat the snack. There were a few times that I told the staff over there to hurry up because I need to go home and cook dinner. If you're Houstonian, you know what I mean.

So four months forward, I found a local therapist who has experience with eating disorder. Her office is quiet, calm, relaxing, close to home (10 minutes drive), with no parking/traffic issues. They have a psychiatrist in the office and I'm considering to have them follow my D too.

We will still keep the ED doctor appointments at Texas Children's to keep track of her weight.

Hope this helps.
There is an ERC in Houston - I have a friend who is a counsellor who works there.  My understanding is that ERC are highly thought of in terms of the treatment of ed patients.  I don't know what age group they take though.
Believe you can and you're halfway there.
