Hi EllenB,

I haven't heard about Ketamine Treatments for anorexia. Are there some evidence based medical studies or trials which have been done which you could point us to?

warmly,
Kali

In the 1990’s there was some interest in ketamine.
Here is a recent review of AN by Dr Treasure. I will another article for you, but it may be old...

There does seem to be some places that are advocating for it but I am not sure if that is with ‘new’ evidence or based on older trials. I don’t know I am just putting this here for perusal.

There is interest in  ketamine’s use in Anorexia but it seems they are doing studies now on it based on animal models. I think it would be considered ‘off label’ use in Canada. Not sure about other countries.  It would require proper randomized clinical trials before it was approved as an effective treatment. I have not looked into it but this is what I found.

Thank you Enn! It appears that healing/recovery from AN is an indirect effect of the ketamine treatments when co-morbidity is present. It also appears that there hasn't been enough research done and so this makes it also a bit frightening, especially when it comes to understanding the long term effects (which appear to be unknown). I have spoken with a Mom who swears these treatments saved both of her daughters, one of which was suffering from anorexia.
