For those that don't know already. Cynthia Bulik is giving a free public lecture in Auckland on Tuesday.

Come along to St Mary's-in-Holy Trinity to hear 'The nine truths about eating disorders.' This lecture will summarise the latest research on eating disorders including genetics and environmental factors and will dispel common myths which hamper understanding and outcomes for those with anorexia nervosa.

Its not about FBT sotired, check her out on youtube, she is amazing, she is researching neurobiology and genetic links and has pioneered the ANGI study to NZ.

If I was in Auckland I would be there in a heartbeat.

Rough notes from what I can remember..
- A period of negative energy balance and how this can trigger eating disorder among those genetically prone to it
- In those with an eating disorder, hunger/starvation makes them calm or happy, unlike most people.
- info about the angi study that is currently being carried out, needs a huge number of participants for genetic markers to show up in scientifically valid amounts
- in 50% of adolescent FBT is effective. The multifaceted approach needed.
- it's fear and anxiety causing our daughters or sons or partners with e.d. to be so stubborn and annoying, so we should try to be understanding and not angry at them - they aren't lying and sneakily vomiting on purpose - they're terrified

Cindy Bulik is indeed a marvelous and knowledgeable speaker.

She is also the director of the UCAN program for adults at UNC, and I love that she is apparently integrating couples/partner findings into her talks.

Thank you for taking the time to post.
