Well well well,
For all those carers out there starting refeeding...let me tell you this.
My D was down 21kgs or 46lbs from where she is today....back in January this year. She is WR now, has been for a couple of months, and has been progressing very well, particularly in the last month. Today she told me something that should give you all strength in the trenches.....
"Mum....there are things I want to say to you but I haven't yet (since feeling better)"
"The food you have given me all this year has been very yummy and I am glad you made it all tasty food"
"The first day we were refeeding, you gave me Greek yogurt and although I told you it was disgusting and I said all those horrible things, that was the ED not me. I remember thinking that this was the most beautiful yogurt I had ever had...I hadn't eaten anything sweet for a long time before that."
What I want carers to understand...if they don't already......
DO NOT BE AFRAID OF WHAT E.D. IS AFRAID OF!
REFEED......refeed...refeed....don't listen to ED...don't listen to whinging, shouting, screaming, etc etc etc

Beautiful,
I remember you spoon fed for a long time and I don't think I will soon forget the sandwich rundown  you had at a park. One amazing mum and one beautiful daughter.

Praise God!

And I bet those simple words made the hell you went thru to get the nutrition in and keep it in all worthwhile.

Refeed, refeed, refeed, indeed!  Excellent, Louie!  You are reaping the blessing.

Hallelujah!

Louie,

So often ADTD, we try to help parents understand the importance of separating their child from the disease.  Sharing this conversation with your d is such a blessing...it really helps parents see why this matters.

Our "real" children are hidden by the gruesome symptoms of their suffering.  It's later, after the battle in the swamp of this sickness, that many parents finally hear from their own children how desperate they were for someone to love them enough not to believe the voice of ed.

Thank you, thank you...your posts are a constant source of encouragement!
Sending a back rub.

Making me misty too!!
Hugs to your family.

Deep thanks to you for sharing your D's remembrance.  The very strong picture you have painted of a person only being able to partake of the delicious food that is necessary for life because of the determined action of her loved ones, will stay with me forever.  You have pounded another nail into ED's coffin.

AnnieK...I like that....all year I have been looking for a magic wand, and what I actually needed was a hammer to put another nail in ED's coffin....lol...I have a good mental picture of that one.
I need a tool belt too.....you can never have too many accessories. Knife, fork, spoon, refrigerator, stove, groceries, hammer, nails.....the list goes on. I am not going to put the fridge in the tool belt....it will be too heavy....ha ha.

I have a dream:

That we could hand this post to every mother and father the day they begin to face ED. Imagine the difference in how a family might be able to respond!

Louie,

This kind of post is the most valuable IMO, as it shows the light onto the path for those just beginning this journey.

Thank you for the illumination.
