My 26 yr old D has been in hospital for the past 8 weeks. She is an involuntary patient and is having Ng feeding. We have been told that when she reaches a BMI of 15 she will be discharged. I don't know what will be the next step. She of course wants to come home. I am wondering if day program or an inpatient program would work best. Any thoughts???

My other question is about her throat from the tube. She is experiencing a lot of pain from the tube which seems to be getting worse each day. She is having some pain relief but it is at the point where it is hurting to eat and she is having more Ensure than food. If anyone has had experience with this we would appreciate suggestions.
Thanking you
Elizabeth

Are you aware of what is in your area. I think you are in Sydney so there are a few private hospitals that do inpatient programs if you have insurance, or alternately you could even look at something like The Geelong Clinic, there have been a number of people who have travelled interstate for this.

Most of these programs are voluntary so I would be working hard with her current care team to look at where she should go next. They will discharge her because they don't have a lot of choice about involuntary treatment, but of course we all know she will be a long way from better.

Another option would be to look at some of the Butterfly clinic outpatient programs, if she wants to be at home. Her mental state will make a big difference as to the best place for her. She may well want to be at home but that doesn't mean it is the right place for her.

Thank you for your reply. I will look into the Geelong clinic. D has had a long association with the Northside West clinic but she is reluctant to go back. Wants a fresh start. I find it difficult to differentiate between what she needs and being her mum. At the moment the team are letting D decide .
