Hi Shawn-- I guess what I am saying is that even if you can't keep them from counting, you CAN keep them from choosing based on calorie counts by not having them choose at all and doing the magic plate thing.

I admit, especially in the beginning, I did lots of compound kind of meals--casseroles, etc. . . I knew what she was getting because I checked as I planned and cooked, but she could not figure it just by looking or eating.  I can't tell you how many times I had to reassure my daughter that I knew exactly what was in whatever I made because I was watching.  It was always true.  As she got better, she stopped asking and just ate. 

What ended up happening was that we had made her calorie-counting moot.  She could not figure it out, and we did not share.  Eventually, calorie counting assumed less improtance to her.  Her only job was to eat.

Does that make sense?
