Wise hive of parental wisdom? Any recommendations of a residential center in the US for a teen girl suffering from a restrictive ED and years-long unremitting suicidality?

I am asking for a clinician who is trying to help the family.

Please post below or email recommendations to Laura@FEAST-ed.org

Following.

I'm actually wondering if we could be the family in question. Is the clinician at ERC?

No, not ERC. That is all I know about the situation, but I actually was curious about parent experiences with this dual issue of suicidality and eating disorders, and what residential centers deal well with both together. I knew if there were good recommendations they'd come from this group!

My daughter has been at ERC since November, at the IP level and they have done a great job of handling both issues.

Having said that, they are not a long-term facility and at one point they were saying that D's depression was beyond their capability. They suggested that she could be a candidate for ECT, however it is illegal to perform ECT on minors in CO. So we were looking into some other facilities, including UNI in UT, U of Iowa, Alexian Brothers in IL, and McLean Hospital in MA. Some of these programs are covered by insurance, some are not. Based on the few conversations I had, U of Iowa would've been my first choice.

It all became moot when the Abilify finally kicked in and my D started showing some improvement. A little. Finally. Still quite a ways to go, but the current plan is for her to finish the ERC program and then we might place her in a therapeutic boarding school or we might bring her home. That is still TBD.

ETA: Rogers in WI was also a consideration, but the issue there is that the age of consent for treatment in WI is 14, so D would've had to consent, and theoretically could've signed herself out. I don't think she would've but my DH didn't want to risk it.

Hi - This chain spoke to me.  My 20 yr. old daughter has been in ERC since October -and is showing strong signs of depression - acting out with self-harm, substances etc.  She has been put back in IP after doing a week in step-down and resorting to bad coping choices.    Medications do not appear to be working - they have diagnosed a borderline personality disorder and feel she needs additional treatment.  McLean was a recommendation but super expensive - we have found Caron Renaissance in Florida as possible next step.   Any advice?  I saw University of Iowa as another option-  I had not heard of this one before.    I am exhausted and weary.
