Beat, the biggest eating disorder charity in the world, is looking for parents, family members, and those who have had eating disorders to review materials for the organization. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to be a positive part of advocacy and public information that affects society.

Have you ever read a web page or press release or news article and thought "I wish they'd asked me first, but now it's too late."

Have you ever felt that your family's experience is not reflected in what organizations and media say?

This is an excellent opportunity to be one of those voices. The commitment looks flexible. Check it out!!

They don't make it easy, though... all those references required... and many professionals charge to provide references (e.g. GPs)... Also the page isn't specific about what kind of volunteers they want - so YES it's a prime example of "I wish they'd asked me first..." !!

I also had a look at this - thinking I could be of help.

To be honest - their application is ridiculous.  I don't have the energy to even put myself through it knowing that this is a VOLUNTARY position.  Both Batty and I have degrees, career and carer experience which are enough to validate our suitability for being able to read drafts of anything BEAT might want to produce.  But I am not providing references or even completing the application form when it is so demanding and treating it as if we are applying for paid positions.

They need to get REAL!

You did a good thing in bringing this to our attention Laura - but I don't have the energy to email BEAT even to say what I think.    If there are other people out there who want to apply, good on them.  I won't be applying.

Believe you can and you're halfway there.
