Wondering if any of the Australian families have tried to have an Involuntary Order changed or amended to allow for private, more specialised care.
D is 22 and under a Queensland Health order (presumably) however we are looking at private options both in Sydney and one in Queensland and have been told it will be a problem.
She is currently in a medical ward and won't be moved until she is medically stable so we do have a little bit of time to try and get this sorted 😬

I have not tried this, but my understanding from speaking to some people about involuntary treatment in Victoria is that the Private hospitals that treat eating disorders don't accept involuntary patients. That may not be the case elsewhere, but I would imagine that if there were places that would accept her it would be a possibility. Crossing state lines would be a problem because the laws for involuntary treatment are state based rather than national. I would start by seeing if the facilities you are looking at in QLD will accept involuntary patients.

Dear coffeetime,

If you or someone you know is able to read legal legislation then the Queensland Mental Health Act

https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN/CURRENT/M/MentalHealthA16.pdf

The one aspect that may be a difficulty is transportation across a state border as that would involve the other state's (NSW) mental health Act & possible the Federal Mental Health Act

This section of the Queensland Act talks about the transportation of persons.

Division 2

Transport of persons within and to and from authorised mental health services and other particular places

Many thanks Foodsupport_AUS and AUSSIEedfamily.
Yes you are right, the transport between states seems to be the issue.
We will keep plugging away!
