Hi there,

Now 13yrs old D has been on 5mg Olanzapine for about 20months since beginning of refeeding after AN onset and we would like to initiate coming off that drug as she is doing better + we are not even sure if it has any effect on her.

how did it happen for you:
- how long did it take to get off (cut in half for a couple weeks?)
- under what supervision (regular visit to therapist?)
- any side effects observed (hunger or other?)

In our case, the therapist that prescribed it in the first place is no longer seeing D, is it problematic to do this on our own with our regular pediatrician in backup if needed?

thanks for sharing your experience

My D was under a psychiatrist for her Olanzapine. We stopped it over the course of a few weeks halving the dose then stopping. We didn't notice anything other than less day time drowsiness.
D diagnosed restrictive AN June 2010 age 13.5. Weight restored July 2012. Relapse and now clawing our way back. Treatment: multiple hospitalisations and individual and family therapy.

My D took half a tablet for two weeks then stopped. She took it at night to help her sleep. I felt her mood was lower than usual and she had difficulty sleeping for a few weeks. She is fully off it now.
